EE defends decision of not offering unlimited data plans on its new 4G LTE network

EE defends decision of not offering unlimited data plans on its new 4G LTE networkDefending Everything Everywhere (EE)'s decision of not offering unlimited data plans on its new 4G LTE network, which is set to go live on October 30, EE's consumer CMO Pippa Dunn recently told TechCrunch that the carrier did not find it necessary to offer unlimited data plans because "the vast majority" of its 27 million customers do not need these plans.

The statement by Dunn came close on the heels of EE's earlier-this-week announcement of its 4GEE tariffs, which will range from between £36 and £56 per month for the carrier's two-year plans for 500MB, 1GB, 3GB, 5GB and 8GB data.

According to Dunn, EE had decided to give unlimited data plans for its 4G network a miss because of the fact that these plans are generally used by the so-called "super techies," and catering to their needs would have led to an increase in prices.

Dunn further elaborated that if EE had allowed the "super techies" to use as much data as they wanted, the move would have delivered a notable blow to the average consumers.

Noting that the unlimited data plans from EE would have largely attracted network abusers, Dunn said that the company's officials "don't think unlimited data is necessary for 4GEE," and added: "The only thing that happens when you get an unlimited data plan is you attract the people who cane the network and that's not great for any consumer."
