Drink Milk To Keep Away From Alzheimer
A new study conducted by an international team, led by Oxford University, revealed that consuming two glasses of milk daily can help people against memory loss and Alzheimer's disease in adulthood.
The researchers discovered that that milk, which is one of the best sources of Vitamin B12, lessens the neurological damage to the brain that can give rise to forms of dementia.
Additionally, the study also disclosed that old patients having low levels of B12 had twice the amount of brain shrinkage as compared to those with higher levels of the substance in their bodies.
Prof David Smith, who led the study, said that drinking just two glasses of milk on a daily basis would be sufficient to raise the levels of vitamin B12 to a satisfactory level.
Prof Smith also said that aged could slow cognitive decline by increasing the intake of B12.
“Our study shows that consuming around half a litre of milk or more per day, and it can be skimmed milk, could take someone who has marginal levels of B12 into the safe range. But drinking just two glasses a day can protect against having low levels,” Prof Smith said.
The study appears in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
Vitamin B12 is a water soluble vitamin. It is naturally found in meat (especially liver and shellfish), milk and eggs.
