Double bomb attack in Algiers kills one terrorist suspectParis  - A double bomb attack at an army barracks Wednesday in eastern Algiers, injuring several people and killing the suspected suicide bomber.

After setting off one bomb, the attacker tried to use the panic to slip into the barracks. But when he couldn't get in, he blew himself up, sources close to Algerian security forces said Wednesday evening.

The attack took place in the suburb of Tamaris, not far from the strand promenade. The Algerian-based al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, formerly known as the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, was suspected.

The French government reassured the Algerian government of its support in the fight against terrorism. (dpa)
