DoT asks key information from five companies

Department-of-TelecomThe Department of Telecom (DoT) has asked five telecom operators to provide their accounting details to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) for an audit.

The CAG needs account details of the last three years, to be able to make proper assessments. The five telecom companies are- Bharti Airtel, Reliance, Tata, Vodafone and BSNL.

The department has asked the companies to provide some of the most essential documents. These include all the financial details about the companies. They are mostly the different heads under which the companies show their income like service-wise revenues, other sources of income, supplementary and support income et al.

According to sources, CAG is not satisfied with some of the findings of the previous audits. All four of the five private telecom companies, underwent a special audit in 2007-08.

But, CAG is asking for re-audit of the accounts for all the companies in the given three years' period. Apart from that, the authorities have also demanded reports from the state run, BSNL.

As per the internals, auditors have submitted reports on Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications while they are still working on Vodafone Essar and Tata Teleservcies.
