Dinesh Trivedi might step down today
Dinesh Trivedi might have to step down as the country's Railway Minister following demands from his party members to resign over increasing passenger fares.
Mamata Banerjee has asked the ruling congress party that her nominee to the Cabinet, Dinesh Trivedi should be removed from his post today. Mr Trivedi has angered many including his party members and his party chief, Mamata Banerjee by announcing a hike in passenger fares during his Railways budget and for refusing to roll back he hike even after strong opposition.
The Congress party ahs reportedly asked Ms Banerjee to wait until 30 March for the removal of the minister as the ongoing parliamentary session ends then and this would not give an opportunity to the opposition to attack the government on the issue.
However, Ms Banerjee has not agreed to the suggestion and has demanded immediate removal of Mr Trivedi from the cabinet birth. Ms Banerjee demanded that Mr Trivedi must be removed soon after the presentation of the Union Budget in the Parliament.
Ms Banerjee has the right to change her nominee to the Cabinet and she has asked the Congress party to replace Mr Trivedi with her party's Mukul Roy. Senior Congress leaders will meet after the presentation of the report to discuss Mr Trivedi's removal from the cabinet post.
