Dinesh Kumar advances into quarters of WBC
The Indian pugilist Dinesh Kumar has entered into the quarterfinals of the 81 kg category of the World Boxing Championship (WBC) after punching-out Bejenaru Constantin of Romania in the third round in Milan, Italy on Monday.
Dinesh defeated Bejenaru 19-7 to set up clash with the 2007 World Championships silver medalist Artur Beterbiev of Russia in the quarterfinal. Artur had defeated Kamara Babacar of Sweden in the pre-quarterfinal match. Dinesh earned first point of the bout and his dominance continued throughout the match.
Dinesh took lead of 3-2 in the first round and he enhanced his lead to 11-4 with the help of his straight punches at the end of second round. Dinesh earned 8 more points in the final round to win the match.
However, Asian silver medalist Jai Bhagwan crashed out after going down to German Eugen Burhard 3-9 in the pre-quarterfinal bout of the 60 kg category. Meanwhile, Vijender Singh will meet Rolls Steve of Canada in the pre-quarter-finals of 75 kg category on Tuesday.
