Dharmendra, Rishi Kapoor Win Lifetime Achievement Awards At MAMI

Two ever-shining gems of Bollywood industry Rishi Kapoor and Dharmendra10th International Film Festival, Mumbai were presented the ‘Lifetime Achievement Awards’ at the closing ceremonial occasion of 10th International Film Festival, Mumbai on Thursday evening.

The two actors were acclaimed for their major contributions to Indian cinema for more than 25 years at the closing function of MAMI attended by the Bollywood glitterati and film aficionados.

The Spanish Director Carlos Saura was honoured with the Global Lifetime Achievement Award, introduced from this year by the Mumbai Academy of Movies Images (MAMI), the organiser of the festival.

Lyricist-filmmaker Gulzar was presented an award for great contribution to Indian film music, whereas Hitendra Ghosh was also honoured with the Kodak award for his technical excellence.

This year, the festival reached to 45 countries and got 140 entries. To nurture ability and offer up a platform to new generation of film producers, Jaya Bachchan, one of the trustees of MAMI, introduced a new section known as ‘Dimensions Mumbai’.

The delegates and film fans appreciated MAMI festival for its good programming this year.

While addressing the gathering, the festival’s artistic director Sudhir Nandgaonkar said, “I am happy that the festival regulars and delegates attending the 10th International Film Festival, Mumbai, have liked the programming this year. This is the greatest award for me as the festival director.”

On the last Gala Night, “The Mourning Forest” was the closing movie of the festival. One of the attractions of the festival was the Italian silent movie Pinocchio (1911) restored by Cineteca. Daily master classes were conducted by renowned filmmakers including James Mimikos, Sriram Raghavan, Stefano Odoardi, Prof. Dragan, Govind Nihalani and Dan Wolman.

The closing gala episode had the prestigious presence of film directors from Mexico, France and European countries together with Shyam Benegal, Chairman of the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI) and other Trustees of MAMI.
