Depressed cricketer commits suicide
The former cricketer and umpire, Shivesh Ranjan Majoomdar has committed self-annihilation at his Rajajipuram colony residence in Talkatora, Lucknow on Tuesday. He was depressed over his poor financial condition which induced him to take this step, as reported by the local police.
Shivesh represented cricket team of Lucknow University in North Zone Inter-University cricket championship in 1997. He also worked as an umpire for Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), Railways and some local clubs at the district level.
Shivesh's father said that Shivesh was drunk when he came back to home on Monday night and he went upstairs in his room.
He added that Shivesh did not come down till 11 am in the morning and they rushed towards his room when his friends told that Shivesh was not receiving his call. After that Police was called and Shivesh was found hanging on the ceiling fan.
Majoomdar was working as an adhoc employee at Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) for last eight years with monthly salary of only Rs 3,000.
