Dell adds dockable Windows tablet and convertible ultrabook to its XPS laptop line
PC-maker Dell recently enhanced its popular XPS line of laptops by adding two new touchscreen devices – the dockable Windows RT-based XPS 10 Tablet, and the convertible XPS Duo 12 Ultrabook.
The Dell XPS 10 Tablet is a 10-inch tablet which runs Microsoft’s forthcoming tablets-optimized Windows RT operating system. Powered by an ARM processor, the dockable new tablet will apparently be thinner, lighter, and much more affordable than the competing tablets which will run the full x86 version of the Windows 8 OS.
Though the details about the precise specifications of the XPS 10 still remain undisclosed, it is quite evident that the Windows RT OS will make the device better-suited to web browsing, media consumption, and other casual computing uses. However, its slim keyboard dock, with touchpad, will also support more productive tasks; and will supposedly increase the tablet’s battery life by two-fold, to up to 20 hours.
Meanwhile, the new convertible XPS Duo 12 Ultrabook from Dell will essentially be a ‘hybrid’ device which can swivel between tablet and laptop mode, thanks to its remarkable screen-flipping design.
According to a press release by Dell, the XPS Duo 12 Ultrabook will be encased in an aluminum and carbon fiber chassis; and will boast a 12.5 inch Corning Gorilla Glass screen, with "97% more pixels than standard HD."
Both the XPS 10 Tablet and the XPS Duo 12 Ultrabook will hit the markets in October when Microsoft launches the Windows 8 OS.
