Delhi High Court restricts GAIL officers from going on strike

Delhi High Court restricts GAIL officers from going on strikeNew Delhi: On Tuesday, the Delhi high court restricted the officers of public sector gas supplier company GAIL (India) from going on indefinite strike for increasing wages from Wednesday. In a petition, GAIL (India) submitted that the proposed strike by the officers was also against a Supreme Court order. Justice Anil Kumar restrained the executives of the company from going on strike as it would harm the fragile economy.

U D Choubey, the managing director of the company had approached the high court to restrain the executives from going on strike. He also submitted that if they went on strike it would affect the gas and oil supply, which disrupts the air and road traffic.

Earlier the High Court also stayed a strike in fuel retailing companies such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan petroleum. To keep fuel supply lines operating, the company had approached the court for restraint the orders, said Mr Choubey.

Justice Anil Kumar stayed the strike and adjourned the case for next hearing on 2nd March.
