Deepika wins World Championship
India’s Deepika Kumari has become the second Indian to win the World Championship in the archery as she won gold medal in the women’s cadet recurve event of the 11th Youth World archery championship in Ogden (Utah), United States, on Sunday.
Palton Hansda was the first India to win the world title in archery at Merida (Mexico) in 2006, after winning gold medal in the junior compound event in the ninth edition of the World championship.
Deepika, the Tata Archery Academy (TAA) cadet, outplayed her Russian opponent Sayana Tsyrempilova in the final match by 115-109 on Monday.
Deepika was brilliant throughout the final match as she scored 29 points off the first three arrows, while she score two 9s and a 10 to get 28 points in the third to take lead by six points.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Boro bagged bronze medal in the individual category of cadet recurve men’s individual section to place India at the fifth position in the medal tally with a total of one gold and two bronze medals.
