Commonwealth Boxing Championship kicked-off in New Delhi

Commonwealth Boxing Championships Kickoff In New DelhiThe fifth Commonwealth Boxing Championships got started in the national capital today.

Kicked off by Sports Minister MS Gill, the opening ceremonial occasion was presided over by Suresh Kalmadi, Chairman of Organising Committee of Commonwealth Games-2010 and Abhay Singh Chautala, President, Indian Boxing Federation.

Indian boxing champs including such as Nanoa Singh, Suranjay Singh, Vijender Singh, Akhil Kumar, Dinesh Kumar and Nanao Singh will be seen in action in the presence of the home crowd.

In a declaration, Abhay Singh Chautala said, "I assure you that if you provide us (the boxers) with better facilities the boxers will give you better results (not) only in these Commonwealth Games but also in the Olympics 2012. The maximum number of medals will be won by the boxers. I hope that you will provide these boxers with maximum facilities and encourage them."

130 boxers from 14 nations comprising South Africa, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Singapore and Malaysia are taking part in the championships, which finishes on March 17. (With Input from Agencies)
