JeeraJeera contract jumped Rs 151 and settled at Rs 13962 a kg on lower sowing in Gujarat, the biggest producer, due to unseasonal rains and dwindling stocks, though poor overseas demand weighed on sentiment. Unseasonal rains and cloudy weather have delayed jeera sowing in India by a fortnight, pushing up prices, which also found support from a squeeze in supplies and lower stocks, traders, farmers. Lower stock levels support the rates further though demand in the mandi has remained weak Higher acreage expected in Gujarat and Rajasthan due to good moisture content in the soil Demand from US and European countries likely to shift more towards India due to low stocks. As on Dec. 6, farmers in Gujarat had cultivated the spice on
160,000 hectares, against 213,800 hectares during the same period last year, the state farm department data showed. In India, jeera is cultivated during winter from Oct to Dec, and harvested in February-April. India's jeera exports in October fell to 2,250 tonnes compared with 5,100 tonnes a year ago. At Unjha spot market, jeera fell 64 rupees to end at 14,214 rupees per 100 kg.

Jeera trading range is 13699-14089.

Increased arrivals pressure and lack of demand in Unjha mandi kept trend weak for Jeera as rates fell significantly.

Export are expected to remain weak and that could keep pressure on the prices in the short term.

Any adverse weather conditions there could have bullish impact on the prices.
