Nothing is going in favor of restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill. Illness cases linked to E. coli outbreak are rising, shares of the company are dropping and people are avoiding its restaurants. Now, Boston College announced on Monday that over 20 of its students, including eight of its men’s basketball players, have fallen sick after eating at a Chipotle restaurant.

It is not known whether the Boston College illness cases are linked to E. coli outbreak of Denver-headquartered restaurant chain that has sickened more than 50 individuals in nine US states.

The main source of illness was found when a number of students arrived at Health Services center of the school. All of them said they had eaten at a Chipotle restaurant, as per a statement by Boston College. It also said that the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has been informed about the illness, and the department is investigating the case.

Massachusetts Department of Public Health spokesman Scott Zoback said, “We can confirm that there have been reports of gastrointestinal illness among Boston College students. We cannot confirm a cause of the illness at this time, but we are coordinating with Boston public health officials to determine the cause”.

Zoback didn’t confirm the number of Boston students affected, but said that there could be more than 20 new cases. Chipotle spokesperson Chris Arnold said the company has temporarily closed the Boston restaurant. He also said the company is working with health officials to find the source of illness among Boston College students.
