Charlie Sheen discloses about his HIV status

Recent announcement made by actor Charlie Sheen of having HIV has helped unveil the level of stigma associated with the disease. A local HIV/AIDS activist finds the stigma to be worse than ever. The former star of ‘Two and a Half Men’ admitted on the ‘Today’ of knowing about the condition for past four years.

Sean Strub, the executive director of the Milford-based Sero Project, thinks that one of the main messages to take from Sheen’s revelation is throw light on the attention to the treatment science and how a person infected with HIV is taking medicines.

Sheen said that he wanted to put an end to the guess game going around for past many weeks. He also affirmed that being HIV positive does not mean having AIDS. During the four years, he has shared this secret of HIV with some people, who include friends on whom he trust and with every women he had six with.

But his trust did not remain intact, as many people blackmailed him and asked money to keep his secret. Sheen said that he feels relaxed after making the confession. After his revelation, Sheen’s doctor said that he has been taking advanced and effective medications since the time of his diagnosis.

As per the doctor, tests are done on regular basis and they have not shown any infection in the actor. So, it can be said that the infection is practically unimaginable.
