Chandok, the second Indian to race in Formula One

Chandok, the second Indian to race in Formula OneAfter Narain Kartikeyan raced in the Formula One Grand Prix in the 2005 season for Jordan, its now the turn of Karun Chandhok, the 26-year-old from Chennai to try his luck in this exciting event. Chandhok has recently signed a deal with Hispanic Racing and will participate in the 2010 Formula One Championship.

It was last week when it was confirmed that Chandhok was in talks with the Campos Meta 1 team but since there were other contenders with more funding on their back, the chances were bleak. Notably, Jose Maria Lopez, the young racer was believed to have more funding in his bag than Chandhok.

However, luck was on Chandhok's side as a change in ownership took place after Jose Ramon Carbante bought the company from Adrian Campos and appointed Colin Kolles as the team principal, the former Force India top honcho. And the team was subsequently renamed Hispanic Racing Team or HRT F1.

It will be interesting to see the Indian perform on the Formula One tracks and whether he'll be able to chart a new success story of Indian racing, we'll have to wait for a little bit to find an optimal answer to that.
