Champions League becomes part of ICC FTP

Lalit ModiIPL Commissioner Lalit Modi informed that the Champions League has been included in ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP) and now there will be regular berth for the Twenty20 event.

The Champions League Twenty20 is owned jointly by the national cricket boards of Australia, India and South Africa and it will held in India from Oct. 8-23 in 2009.

It should be noted that first edition of the Champions League was unable to commence following the terror attack in Mumbai.

As reported by senior officials, 12 teams will participate in the tournament and the prize money for the winner will be $6 million.

He further added that including two finalists and the top league finishing team, three teams will participate from India and top two domestic T20 teams from South Africa, England, Australia will play in the tournament.

Apart from these teams, the domestic T20 Champions from New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka will also participate in the tournament.

However the schedule for matches has yet to be finalised through a draw which will be held on June 23 in London.
