Centre to implement USHA scheme

New Delhi, Nov 26 : Union Government on Thursday said the Urban Statistics for Human Resources and Assessments (USHA) is under implementation by National Building Organisation
(NBO).

“The scheme aims at the development and maintenance of national database, Management Information System (MIS) and knowledge repository relating to urban poverty, slums, housing, construction and other urbanization-related statistics,” she said.

The USHA, a central sector scheme, comprises database including MIS and sample surveys, action research, impact assessment, capacity building and training.

Selja also clarified that, “No programme has been started by the government for development of slums under the said scheme and as such no state-wise allocation was made under the scheme.”

Replying to another question Selja, the National Policy on Urban Street Vendors, 2009 was circulated to all States Governments and Union Territories in June for suitable adoption.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, she said: “The States were requested to take all necessary action to ensure that the legislative framework and institutional and other necessary arrangements are put in place in conformity with the National Policy on Urban Street Vendors 2009 and further that the Policy is implemented effectively to give a new deal to the urban street vendors.”

Selja also informed the members that no state has reported adoption of the policy by way of executive order or legislation so far. (ANI)
