Celebration of classical guitar in Manipur

Classical GuitarImphal, Jan 5: Manipur witnessed a "guitar celebration" recently where classical guitar performers demonstrated their musical acumen.

Leading this unique celebration was Aribam Uttam Sharma. He played the famous, Fandanguillo: Joaquin Turina, variations on a theme of Mozart and Sonata Eroica.

"I have selected it keeping in mind that such events have never happened before. This is the introduction of classical guitar to Manipur, perhaps in the whole North East region," said Sharma.

Some foreign students also came to participate in the event.

Daniel Daily, an American tourist said: "This area of India seems to have more interesting world of music than the rest of India. So, I think they are in the right place for the future to grow."

"These youngsters are playing very well because of their hard work. If they have some vision with our traditional music, it would be very nice," said Bagar Hasman, a musician.

The show was organised by ATTITUDE-X, a group engaged in promoting music in the Northeast.

Sharma originally belongs to Bangalore, but has chosen Manipur as his destination for guitar celebration. (ANI)
