CBI nabs IRS officer red handed
A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested KM Tripathi, a senior officer of the railways from his Mall Avenue government accommodation for accepting bribe from a contractor.
In a major success, Sleuths from the premier investigating agency seized costly gadgets including LCD televisions, two gold bricks weighing 500 grams each, precious stones, gold and silver ornaments, high-end luxury furniture and Rs 30 lakh in cash from a bucket at the premises. The CBI sleuths also found thick files containing important official documents which Tripathi was not entitled to keep in his personal possession.
A senior CBI official added, "One of the chairs in his living room, we saw its receipt, was bought for Rs 1.5 lakh. You can pretty well imagine the value of the other domestic utilities in the house."
Javeed Ahmad, Additional Director (AD), CBI, (UP and Uttarakhand) confirmed the raid at Tripathi’s residence and his office in Gomtinagar but he declined to divulge more details.
The investigation agency will also investigate his role in other catering related contracts to find more anomalies and irregularities. Meanwhile, the agency is preparing a disproportionate assets case against Mr. Tripathi.
