M Suranjoy and Th Nanao, who won gold and silver medals respectively in their weight categories in the Asian Boxing Championship, 2009 held at Zhuhai in China, were warmly welcomed by the state Governor, Gurbachan Jagat at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal yesterday.

The Governor also gave cash awards of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 to Suranjoy and Nanao respectively for their outstanding performance in the Asian Boxing Championship and he asked them to maintain discipline and bring more medals for their state and country.

A grand function was also organized by the department of youth affairs and sports, government of Manipur at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex main stadium yesterday to honor M Suranjoy Singh and Th Nanao Singh for their brilliant performance in the Asian Boxing Championship, 2009. Kh Nandarani, bronze medalist in the 5th Asian Junior Wushu Championship held at Macau, was also honored for his achievement.

N Biren, minister for youth affairs and sports, was invited as chief guest for the function which held at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
