Cameron wants India to reconsider fighter deal

Cameron wants India to reconsider fighter dealBritish Prime Minister David Cameron has said that he would be ready to do 'everything he can' to encourage the Indian government to reconsider its decision to buy 126 Rafale fighter jets after defeating UK-backed Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft.

The Indian authorities have finalized the Rafale fighter of Dassault Aviation for its $10.4 billion medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) deal, according to the French company.

The Rafale fighter piped the other finalist, Eurofighter Typhoon to bag the contract from the Indian air force. Indian officials indicated that they would soon enter exclusive talks with the French company for the supply of 126 multi role aircraft for the Indian Air force.

"The decision is obviously disappointing. Of course, I will do everything I can, as I have already, to encourage the Indians to look at Typhoon," said the British premier.

The company that manufactures Eurofighter Typhoon also said that they are disappointed following India’s decision to Rafale fighter. The British government has said that it is hoping that India’s defense ministry re-considers its decision and is hopeful of negotiations with India’s Ministry of Defence.

The government’s invitation attracted bid from six contenders including, Russia’s MIG-35, USA’s F-16 Falcon from Lockheed Martin, F-18 Hornet of Boeing, Swedish Saab Gripen, European EADS EuroFighter Typhoon and Rafale.
