CAG releases report on land allotment by AP governmentThe Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has released a new report on the land allotments made by the state government of Andhra Pradesh during 2006-2011 to information technology sector firms and individuals.

The auditor submitted the enormous report to the assembly, in which it noted that there was non-utilisation and diversion of that land that was allotted to different corporations in Hardware Park at Maheshwaram in Ranga Reddy district in the state.

It found that 329 acres of the land allotted were left unutilized. The government had allotted a total of 615 acres to 58 firms in the park in the last 11 years. CAG has criticized the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation for failing to take steps against the firms that were not utilized the land allotted to them.

Amazon and Georgia Institute of Technology are among the firms that have not utilized the land allotted to them by the state government. The report pointed out that Amazon could not utilize the 10.5 acres allotted to it at Nanakramguda due to a legal case. On the other hand, GIT did not pay the amount and also did not utilize as on November 2011.

A senior official of Ministry Information Technology has indicated that it is up to the government to free the land from legal challenges for Amazon.
