Twitter to offer premium paid accounts to businesses; users list to follow

TwitterWith speculations making rounds of late about the micro-blogging service Twitter's crescendos, the free and popular site intends offering premium paid accounts to businesses with extended services to generate revenue; raising its profile to Twitter newcomers; and a recommended users list to follow.

Talking about the new offerings, San Francisco-based Twitter's co-founder Biz Stone told Reuters: "We think there will be opportunities to provide services to commercial entities that help them get even more value out of Twitter. If these services are valuable to companies, we think they may want to pay for them."

UTV Software To Buy 10% Additional Stake In UTV GlobalUTV Software Communications Ltd, an Indian media and entertainment company, has declared that company will purchase an additional 10% stake in the UTV Global Broadcasting Ltd.

The deal is priced at Rs 329.7 million.

The shares will be purchased from UTV Software’s promoter group company, Unilazer Exports & Management Consultants Ltd.

UTV Software holds 75% of UTV Global.

UTV Software also said that its broadcasting section has met its advertising revenue objective for the year to March 2009.

In Global IT Index, India Slips To 54th PositionAccording to Global Information Technology Report 2008-2009 released today, China has defeated India on the worldwide IT (information technology) radar, by gaining the 46th position in what is known as the Network Readiness Index (NRI).

At the same time India fell to the 54th grade from the 50th position during the last year, China jumped 11 points to come forward as a more innovative nation in promoting its global IT interests.

Two candidates have thrown their hat into the ring.

Yukiya Amano, 62, is currently Japan's permanent representative and ambassador to the IAEA.

Abdul Minty, 69, has been South Africa's representative to the IAEA since 1995. He is also deputy director general of South Africa's Foreign Affairs Department.
