Brown to offer more Afghanistan troops at NATO summit - officials

Brown to offer more Afghanistan troops at NATO summit - officials London - Britain will offer to send extra troops to Afghanistan "subject to appropriate burden sharing" by other NATO allies, government officials in London said Friday.

They said Prime Minister Gordon Brown would make an announcement to that effect at the NATO summit in Strasbourg marking the 60th birthday of the alliance.

The "temporary troop increase" would be aimed at providing security during the upcoming presidential election in Afghanistan in August.

Britain currently has 8,300 troops in southern Afghanistan. (dpa)
