Brisk walk helps shed and maintain weight
Want to lose weight but cannot hit gym. No problem, this new study has an easy solution to your problem. According to it, brisk walking is better than going to a gym to lose weight. In fact, the researchers have said that regular walkers are able to lose or maintain weight in a better manner than those who take training at the gym.
Researchers from the London School of Economics carried out the study on over 50,000 patients between 1999 and 2012. In the study, the researchers have assessed the activity levels and exercises carried out by the participants. The researchers assessed heart rate, perspiration and correlated BMI and waist circumference measurements as well.
After evaluating their data, it was found that those who followed a regular walk regime were having lower body mass indexes (BMIs) than those who were involved in high-intensity workouts.
One of the study leaders, Dr. Grace Lordan, said that walking is easier than going to gym daily. It is something, which people can easily manage. Walking suits every age type and especially for elderly. Therefore, it would not be wrong to affirm that every step counts.
“We show that individuals who walk at a brisk or fast pace are more likely to have a lower weight when compared to individuals doing other activities”, said the researchers. Lordan said that there is a need to come up with a campaign to promote walking.
