Sarajevo - More than 40,000 people are expected to attend a commemoration for the 13th anniversary of a massacre in the former eastern Bosnian Muslim enclave of Srebrenica next week, Bosnian media reported Wednesday. 

Srebrenica Mayor Abdurahman Malkic confirmed that some 330 victims of the massacre would be buried during the ceremony at the Potocari Memorial Centre near Srebrenica. 

The victims exhumed from several mass graves in eastern Bosnia and identified through sophisticated DNA analysis would be buried next to some 3,000 Srebrenica victims buried in Potocari since the memorial centre was opened five years ago. 

Up to 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men were killed after Bosnian Serb troops captured the enclave of Srebrenica on July 11, 1995, during the 1992-95 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. 

More than 30,000 women, children and elderly people were expelled from the area. 

The remains of an unknown number of victims exhumed in the last couple of years from more than 60 mass graves in eastern Bosnia and currently packed in more than 5,000 bags are still awaiting identification and proper burial. 

The masterminds of the massacre, former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his army commander general Ratko Mladic, remain at large nearly 13 years after The Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) indicted them for war crimes and genocide, including the massacre in Srebrenica. 

While Mladic is believed to be hiding in Serbia, Karadzic's whereabouts remain unknown. (dpa)
