Boeing planning to move 300 engineers to Long Beach facility
US aviation major, Boeing has indicated that it is planning to move about 300 engineering jobs to its facility near Long Beach airport during the coming months.
The company said that its employees form relocate from the Puget Sound region in Washington to the facility, which is located next to Long Beach Airport and that focuses on assembly of the C-17 cargo jet for the Air Force. The company already has 1,200 engineers in Long Beach, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach.
The company has also announced its plans to set up a new engineering design centre for commercial aircraft in Southern California. The company has not announced the location for the centre band has also not announced the number of jobs to be created at the new facility. Boeing only said that the facility would be incubator for young talent in the region.
Meanwhile, Boeing had recently announced that it is planning to cut about 800 machinists this year as part of its plans to reduce the workforce working on 747 and 787 airplane programs. The company has said that the job cuts are part of long-term plan and does not necessarily signal any change in the production rates of the two models.
