Big Music inks home-video licensing pact with Paramount

Big Music inks home-video licensing pact with ParamountReliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group's Big Music & Home Entertainment has inked an exclusive home-video licensing agreement with Paramount Home Entertainment.

The latest pact was earlier associated with RPG-owned SaReGaMa in India.

As per view of technical experts, the agreement gives the Big Music & Home Entertainment exclusive home-video distribution rights for Paramount Home Entertainment, DreamWorks Animation SKG and DreamWorks Pictures in Indian and Sri Lankan market.

Apart from this, the deal also provides access to a combined library of 25,000 Hollywood titles that include the Godfather and Indiana Jones series, American Beauty, the Shrek Series and Madagascar, among others.

The company had previously forged similar alliances with Universal and Warner. The company expects to generate a business of worth Rs 80 crore from the latest partnership.

According to an estimate, Hollywood movies account for 15-20% of the home-video market, which is estimated to be worth Rs 130 crore.

Beside this, the company also plans to release Blu-Ray CDs of Jodhaa Akbar for the first time in India.

Blu-ray, which is the successor to DVD, is an optical disc format designed to display high definition video and store large amounts of data. However, the disc currently can be played only on high-tech DVD systems.
