London, Dec 18 : Hollywood actor Ben Affleck and musician Mick Jagger have joined hands to launch a short flick revealing the wretched plight of families living in the war-torn republic of Congo.

The flick named `Gimme Shelter' highlights the unbearable condition of 250,000 refugees in eastern DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo).

The UN''s refugee agency, the UNHCR, is hoping the film will help to raise 23million dollars to pay for emergency aid and clean water.

The `Armageddon' actor who has travelled to the central Africa area four times since 2007, directed the film and set it to the famous Rolling Stones tune `Gimme Shelter', which was released at the time of the Vietnam War in the 1970s.

Affleck revealed that he was thrilled to receive an opportunity to bring to light the pathetic condition of the Congo refugees.

"Obviously, it''s a pretty bleak humanitarian catastrophe on the one hand, I think that that''s something people know. On the other hand, I wanted to try to show people something about the refugee situation that they hadn''t seen which is that there''s an extraordinary dignity to refugees," BBC quoted Affleck, as saying.

"A lot of these folks are like you and me. A lot of people I encountered were teachers, lawyers professors - everyday people whose towns were upended and who were living and struggling, with a kind of dignity that could just be you or me," he added.

On the other hand, Jagger and his band The Rolling Stones have donated their track `Gimme Shelter' to the campaign in a bid to raise money for emergency humanitarian assistance kits to help needy Congolese families.

"I hope this video will help highlight the plight of the hundreds of thousands of displaced people and also the thousands of innocent people who are needlessly losing their lives there," Jagger said. (ANI)
