Bata Q1 Net Up 38.7%

Bata Q1 Net Up 38.7%Bata India posted an increase of 38.7 per cent for the three month period ended March 31, 2010.

Footwear retailer recorded a net profit of Rs 14.33 crore for the first quarter (Jan-Mar) of 2010 as against Rs 10.33 crore in the same period of 2009.

In a declaration, Marcelo Villagran, managing director of Bata India Limited, said, "This performance is the result of higher sales and profitability due to the expansion in our retail stores, a fantastic shoe line, improved inventory management and great customer service."

"We will continue with our strategy of expansion in different markets by opening new stores and investing in building our brand," Mr. Villagran added.

At present, the company has over 1,200 Bata Shoe Stores situated in more than 400 cities across India.

Mr. Villagra also said that the company will continue to make investments to increase its retail business and brand building.

During the first quarter, the company opened 25 new outlets of the 'Bata' brand in two outlets of its high-end 'Hush Puppies' brand and freshened up 16 other stores.

Situated in metropolitans, mini- metropolitans and tier 1 and 2 cities, these new stores have assisted the company to bring to its clients its new modern range. (With Inputs from Agencies)
