Srinagar, Kashmir - At least 10 men, including seven soldiers of the Indian Army, were killed in avalanches in India-administered Kashmir, police said Wednesday.

An army team was sent to find three porters who went missing Monday after an avalanche struck the Nowshera Nar area of Bandipore district, 60 kilometres north of state capital Srinagar.

"The army team consisting of two officers and five soldiers were trying to track the porters, but they were also caught under another avalanche in the area Tuesday," a local police officer said.

The bodies of some soldiers and porters were recovered and operations were on to find the remaining victims.

Avalanches are a common feature in the state because it snows heavily in the upper reaches of Kashmir during the winter.

Weather officials have predicted more rains and snow in the region over the next two days. (dpa)
