Australian boxers pull out of CBC
Australian boxers have decided to pull out from the Commonwealth Boxing Championships (CBC) due to postponement of the mega event to be held in New Delhi.
Delay in the construction of the Talkatora Sports Complex had forced Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) to postpone boxing championship to March 10-18 in 2010 from original schedule of December
2009.
On Thursday, IBF Secretary General P. K. Muralidharan Raja informed that Australian team has pulled out due to clash of the games with their home international series with Italy and Ukraine while all other countries will participate in the mega event.
Mr. Muralidharan added that stadium will be ready in time and Super Cup in Mumbai to be held from January 13 to 16 and two weeks trials in Patiala will act as basis for selecting boxers for this event.
He further added that IBF is also planning to start city based Indian professional league for boxing on the basis of success of Indian Premier League (IPL) started by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
