Australia defeats India by 4 runs in a very exciting match
Australian team has taken 1-0 lead in the seven one day international matches series against India after defeating India by 4 runs in the first ODI match in Vadodra on Sunday.
Australian skipper Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat first. Australian team scored 292 runs for loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. Ponting was top scorer for Australia who scored 74 runs while Mike Hussey contributed 73 runs with the bat.
Ishant Sharma took three wickets for 50 runs in his 10 overs while Ashish Nehra chipped in with two wickets.
Chasing target of 293 runs, Indian team got to a bad start as they lost wickets of Virender Sehwag (13) and Sachin Tendulkar (14) with just 45 runs on the board.
Indian team was once struggling with losing seven wickets for just 201 runs but after that Parveen Kumar (unbeaten 40) and Harbhajan Singh (49) added 84 runs for the eighth wicket.
But they failed to lead India to victory as India finished their inning with 288 runs for eight wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Hussey was declared man of the match.
