Australia crashes out of ICC T20 World Cup
Australian team crashed out of the ICC T20 World Cup after Australia lost their pool match against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge. After Scotland and Bangladesh, Australia has become third team to crash out of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to field first against Australia in a must win match.
Australia lost their opener David Warner (0) in the first over of their inning but after that Ricky Ponting (25) and Shane Watson (22) showed some resistance against Sri Lankan bowling attack.
But as Australia lost wickets of Ponting and Watson, their middle order collapsed and towards the end of their inning David Hussey (28) and Michelle Johnson (28) helped Australia to put up a total of 159/9 in 20 overs.
Mystery bowler Ajantha Mendis and Lasith Malinga took three wickets each for Sri Lanka and played a major role in destroying Australian batting line-up.
Sri Lanka chased target of 160 in 19 overs with the help of brilliant batting performance by TM Dilshan (53) and Sangakkara (55 not out).
Brett Lee took two wickets for Australian team against Sri Lanka. Sangakkara was declared man of the match.
