Assam upsets Bengal in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

fitbox-twenty20Parvez Aziz played a blistering inning of 74 runs in just 44 balls as Assam defeated Bengal by 35 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 (East Zone) Trophy at Railway Stadium in Dhanbad on Thursday.

Assam won the toss and elected to bat first on a small ground. Aziz shattered Bengal bowlers all-over the park as he smashed six towering sixes and an equal number of fours in his inning. Assam scored 157 runs for five in their allotted 20 overs.

Abhijit Sinha Roy also contributed quick 32 runs. Bengal off-spinner Saurashish Lahiri claimed three wickets for 20 in his four overs which included one maiden over.

Chasing target of 158 runs, Bengal openers Wriddhiman Saha (40) and Deep Dasgupta (17) added together 53 runs for the first wicket. But after that Bengal middle order collapsed and they bundled out for 122 in 17.4 overs.

Dhiraj Goswami bagged three wickets while Sarupam Purkayastha chipped in with two wickets.
