ASI starts search for buried gold in Unnao

ASI starts search for buried gold in UnnaoA team of experts from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has started excavation at a ramshackle fort in UP's Unnao district to find buried gold.

Interestingly, a seer named Sobhan Sarkar, the head priest of Shobhan Temple, predicted that huge gold stock is buried nearly 20 metres (65 feet) under the site. He made the prediction, claiming that the erstwhile king of Daudiyakheda estate Raja Rao Ram Baksh Singh informed him about the gold in a dream.

The seer stressed that he was a man of God and he didn't lie. He even claimed that that he was ready to go to jail in case his prediction went wrong.

ASI experts said they would employ the most basic method of excavation and it would take them as many as five weeks to get the `dream' jackpot.

PK Mishra, superintendent archaeologist at ASI, said that workers were instructed to do the excavation work at extremely slow speed and not to dig more than 3 feet per day.

Speaking on the topic, Mishra added, "Workers have been instructed to go slow in excavation as the ASI doesn't want to damage any historical artefact it might hit upon in the process."

According to the seer's prediction, there should be 1,000 tones of gold buried under earstwhile Raja Rao Ram Baksh Singh's ramshackle fort.

Raja Rao Ram Baksh Singh had died in a battle with the British forces in India's first war of independence in 1857.
