Ashfaq Kiyani an excellent soldier, but not an astute planner: US
Karachi, Nov.20 : Pakistan’s Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ashfaq Kiyani is considered more pro-American than President General Pervez Musharraf, but Washington sees him as an excellent soldier who performs under a good commander, but not a very astute planner or one capable of taking independent military decisions that could have wide political ramifications.
According to the Asia Times, the former head of the powerful Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), is not considered to have performed particularly well at the politically-charged outfit and during the Lal Masjid crisis in Islamabad this year, Kiyani’s ISI and paramilitaries were not given charge of the operation. Rather, Special Forces commanded by the 10th corps of the Pakistani Army and its intelligence units, was roped in. (ANI)
