Arjun Sengupta dies at 73
The developmental economist and Member of the Rajya Sabha, Arjun Sengupta recently passed away on the Sunday evening. Sengupta, 73 is survived by his wife Jayshree Sengupta and daughter Madhura Sengupta.
It is to be mentioned here that Sengupta's daughter currently teaches at Canada.
As a personality, Sengupta has had a dynamic career as an academician, economic policy administrator and a MP. M Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India said that he is deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of Dr. Arjun Sengupta.
Moreover, the Vice President of the country also mentioned the fact that he will always been remembered for the contributions made by him as he served as Special Secretary to the Prime Minister, Ambassador of India to the European Union, Member, Planning Commission and Chairman, National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganized Sector.
Sengupta taught at the London School of Economics and the Delhi School of Economics after completing his Ph. D from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Ravi Srivastava, Professor at JNU and member in NCEUS said that he will be remembered as some of the people who have been actively involved in development issues.
