Another Kenyan MP, fifth overall, stripped of seatAccording to the official reports, the Kenyan High Court threw out the results of a fifth parliamentary contest from the 2007 election on Friday.

The Nation has reported that many irregularities were found by Judge Kalpana Rawal in the contest in Makadara district between the declared winner, Dick Wathika, and Reuben Ndolo, who is a former Member of Parliament. These include Ndolo's arrest on Dec. 28, 2007, while the vote was being counted, which his lawyer charges was arranged by officials of the now-defunct Electoral Commission.

It was further reported that four other members of Parliament have already lost their seats and four more contests are being challenged. One of those is in the district now represented by Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula.

Supporters of both Wathika and Ndolo packed the streets outside the court Friday with police trying to keep the two groups apart. After the judge gave her ruling, Ndolo was carried from the court on the shoulders of his supporters. (With Inputs from Agencies)
