Another FIA statement set in F1 breakaway series threat

Another FIA statement set in F1 breakaway series threatSilverstone, Britain - The ruling motorsport body FIA will issue another statement later on Friday, its president Max Mosley said in the wake of what appears an imminent defection from Formula One of eight top teams.

Mosley made the announcement at the British Grand Prix during several rounds of crisis talks.

Led by Ferrari and championship leaders Brawn GP, eight teams organized in their umbrella body FOTA said earlier in the day they will start forming their own series after no solution has been reached in a budget cap row with the FIA.

The FIA said in a first statement on Friday that it would announce the final 2010 grid on Saturday. It also accused the FOTA of attempting to take over the power in the sport.(dpa)
