Amazon Posts 68% Growth In ProfitOnline retail giant Amazon announced a 68% growth in its quarterly earnings on the back of strong sales figures.

The Seattle-based retailer stated that its net income for the said quarter stood at $299 million as compared to $177 million in 2009.

Revenue increased by 46% to $7.13 billion.

The company's best seller was its electronic book reader, the Kindle, Amazon said, adding that the Kindle Store now has more than 500,000 books and 175 top publications.

Total sales were especially sturdy in North America, where they climbed 47% to $3.78 billion from a year ago, whereas global sales surged $3.3 billion, up 45%.

The company sold $3.51 billion in electronics, a 72% surge, whereas global media sales arose 26% to $3.43 billion. (With Inputs from Agencies)
