Amazon planning to add 7,000 jobs to meet demand
US online retailing giant, Amazon has said on Monday that it is planning to add 7,000 jobs in an effort to meet the growth in demand from tis customers.
The retailer said that it will add a total of 5,000 full-time jobs across its U. S. fulfilment centres and another 2,000 customer service jobs including full time, part time and seasonal positions. The company also claimed that the jobs at the fulfilment centres would pay 30 per cent higher than traditional retailing jobs in the country. The jobs at fulfilment centres involve merchandise picking, packing and shipping. The company will offer full-time employees stock grants and is also offering to pay up to 95 per cent of tuition to eligible employees.
"We're creating thousands of new full-time jobs in our fulfillment network to meet growing customer demand," said Amazon spokeswoman Mary Osako.
The growth will allow the company to support its distribution with new distribution centers as it looks to offer more and more shopping categories to its customers. The company's AmazonFresh, which is its grocery delivery business, is now expanding its presence in the market from Seattle and will now start serving customers in some areas of Los Angeles.
