Amazon not to offer free delivery on orders worth less than £10Online retail giant, Amazon has said yesterday that it is scrapping free devilry service on orders worth less than £10.

The company announced the change with immediate effect, in a move to improve profitability from business. The change means that the small items worth less than £10 will no longer to be available with supersaver delivery that enables the delivery of the goods in five days. The company also pointed out that the books, DVDs, Blu-rays, music, computer games and software products will continue to come with free delivery even if the value if below the prescribed level.

It is believed that thousands of smaller items will now attract postage and packaging charge of £3.99 in the UK. The company said that it would be able to offer an expanded selection of lower priced products in the country to its customers. Universal free delivery was launched by the company in 2009 for expanding its services. The company also pointed out that the customers subscribed with Amazon Prime, which costs £49 a year, will continue to get next-day delivery on all eligible orders.

The company has been able to expand its markets share and sales but was has maintained a tiny profit due to costs and its services including free delivery.
