31st annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles held on Sunday
The 31st annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles was organized Sunday with an aim to raise funds for AIDS Project Los Angeles and more than 20 other LA County-based AIDS service organizations. In the event, more than 20,000 people have taken part.
In the event, people walked through West Hollywood and the Fairfax district. An opening ceremony was held that was attended by celebrities and city dignitaries. After the opening event, the walk started at 10 am at West Hollywood Park.
The walk included a new 90-foot tunnel with artificial turf, water misters and information panels on HIV and AIDS. With the help of the money, the organizations will be able to provide food, housing, medical and dental care and counseling to people living with HIV and AIDS and take steps to prevent new infections.
AIDS Walk Los Angeles is the world's first fundraising walk that was started to benefit organizations dealing with AIDS. It was held for the first time in 1985 and raised more than $79 million, including more than $2.2 million last year. In the latest event, organizers said that walkers have raised $2.375, 946 this year.
