10 settlement buildings demolished by Israeli soldiers

10 settlement buildings demolished by Israeli soldiersAccording to the media reports, Israeli soldiers on Tuesday demolished 10 buildings that were erected in the West Bank in defiance of a freeze on settlement expansion.

Haaretz reported that teenagers in the settlements protested the demolition by refusing to leave the buildings. Two people were arrested after burning tires were thrown at the troops.

It was also reported that in East Jerusalem, municipal officials inspected Beit Yonaton, a building scheduled to be emptied of its tenants and sealed. Beit Yonaton, erected without a permit, is named in honor of Jonathan Pollard, a former U. S. Naval Intelligence employee sentenced to life in prison in 1987 for passing classified information to an Israeli agent.

Reports further revealed that Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, a supporter of the settlement movement, agreed to evacuate the building, although he has delayed implementation of the order. He was out of the country on Tuesday. (With Inputs from Agencies)
