Zubin Mehta’s Dream For India

Music maestro Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will give Zubin Mehta’s Dream For Indiaconcerts from October 7 to 12 in Mumbai at the National Theatre of Performing Arts and the Brabourne Stadium. These concerts have been organized by the Mehli Mehta Foundation on the birth centenary of Zubin’s father and musician Mehli Mehta.

Some of the biggest names in western classical music like Placido Domingo, Daniel Barenboim and Barbara Fritolli have been invited to perform in these concerts.

Mehta said that the people whom he has invited have told him for many years that please take us along when you go to India next. For him, these concerts are like homecoming. He added that the concerts were turning into a mini-music festival, the kind India has never seen. He also praised the interest shown by Mumbai in this regard.

Mehta released a commemorative postal cover in memory of his father. For his love of cricket, he was presented with a cricket bat. He also talked about his dream to open a school for Western music in Mumbai. He believes that India has a huge amount of talent and young musicians should not have to go abroad to train in Western classical music.

He said: “Hopefully, we will raise enough money and soon start considering building a school and look at how to get teachers from India and abroad.” Proceeds from the concerts will go towards funding this school.

Zubin Mehta was born in Mumbai. He is a huge cricket fan. He added that he has spent his youth there watching matches, watching spectacular cricket matches at Brabourne stadium where his concert with Domingo and Fratelli will be held.
