Zoellick begins 5-day India visit
Robert B Zoellick, the outgoing President of the World Bank has started his 5-day visit to India aimed at assessing the country's funding requirements for meeting its development goals.
He said that the changes in the global economy could make it herder for the country to achieve its developmental goals. He said that the international will support India's knowledge and financial resources to enable the country to achieve its targets.
"India's needs are great, so I am here to explore with the Government of India innovative ways in which our joint financial capacities can be leveraged, especially in infrastructure financing, so that India can build the roads, highways, railway lines and power plants needed to propel growth," he said.
Zoellick said that the country is set to record seven percent growth this year backed by strong fundamentals and a high domestic savings rate. He was visited India four times during the five year tenure as the President of the World Bank.
Zoellick will meet several government leaders including the Union Ministers of Finance, Home and Rural Development, and the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission. He meetings will be aimed at assessing the country's requirements and determining how the bank can prove to be useful to the country in achieving its developmental goals.
