Yamaha making India its global hub for premium bikes
The Japanese two-wheeler maker's Indian arm, Yamaha India is planning to make the Indian market a hub for its manufacturing plans in the premium category keeping in mind the high growth and acceptability of its offerings in the premium segment.
Yamaha is targeting destinations like Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Colombia, Kenya, Bangladesh and Philippines for the export of its premium offerings. The company is in the middle of firming up its plans for the scooters segment and once it enters the scooters market, it will open new gates of growth for the company as far as the exports are concerned.
The company exported 66904 bikes against 38639 units in the previous fiscal making the exports volumes a significant part of the total volumes that the company enjoys in the domestic market. Notably, the company has strengthened its grip on the executive segment with the launch of the YBR 110.
In fact, Yamaha is planning to take on big guns like Hero Honda and Bajaj Auto with the YBR as it is expected to bring high volumes under the roof of Yamaha India.
