Will IAS officers' body be rendered homeless?

If the roads & buildings department's circuit house expansion dream takes a 'realty' turn, the Gujarat IAS officers' association stands to be rendered homeless, with its office at the Officers' Bungalow 3 in Shahibaug, allotted to it four years back, being targeted for the extension of adjacent circuit house.

Interestingly, the association does not even have a mess of its own and most of its members' major events are usually held in the IPS officers mess in Shahibaug. What remains to be seen now is whether the association will be given another place for shifting its office from the present house immediately, or not.

However, according to a senior IAS officer, the executive body of the association is yet to discuss the matter as the body's recent meeting schedule for last Thursday had to cancelled as the secretary, K Srinivas, is on leave and is not expected to join back for another two weeks.

Confirming that there was a plan to make use of the building in question for some other purpose, the principal secretary of road and buildings department, SS Rathore, who has recently taken charge, also told DNA that the proposal was only in the initial stage and the government was yet to approve it.

On the question of another building being given to the IAS representative body, an official said that since the association was given an office in the first place there was no question that some other place would not be provided to it. However, while babudom prefers to maintain a stiff upperlip on the matter, one of them, on condition of anonymity, told DNA, that they were hopeful that some other bungalow would be made available to the association for its official purpose.

The current office from where the association is working, was earlier occupied by the NRG Foundation, which returned it as the occupancy was very low due to high charges and it already had the adjoining building NRG Bhavan at its disposal.
